How the calculation works

Estimate realistic winter driving range using battery capacity, normal consumption, cold-weather penalty and usable state-of-charge window. Change every input to match your vehicle, equipment, tariff or measured consumption.

Winter consumption = normal consumption × (1 + cold penalty). Range = usable trip energy ÷ winter consumption × 100.

Worked example

A 30% cold-weather penalty turns 20 kWh/100 km into 26 kWh/100 km. A 72.6 kWh battery used from 100% to 10% then provides about 251 km.

What can change the result?

  • Cabin heating and battery conditioning use additional energy.
  • High motorway speed can matter as much as temperature.
  • Short trips are less efficient because the cabin repeatedly warms up.
